John Michael Keyser

KINGSPORT – John Michael Keyser, 54, passed away Tuesday (August 6, 2013) at his home.

John was born in Sullivan County but lived in Mount Carmel until age 17 when he enlisted in the US Army. He retired as a Staff Sargent after 21 years’ service as a Pershing Missile Specialist, five years on the Perfect Team and five years as MLRS Senior Technician and Instructor. He earned a Colonel Coin for the brave rescue of a perishing missile in distress. Mike loved to read and enjoyed fishing and watching football both Tennessee VOLS and Alabama Crimson Tide.

He is preceded in death by his father, Casey Keyser and brother, Danny Crawford.

Survivors include his wife, Gertraud Keyser, Dallas, GA; two sons, Daniel Keyser, Huntsville, AL; and Christopher Keyser, Atlanta, GA; his mother, Vivian Crawford Derrick, Kingsport; three brothers and sisters-in-law, Wayne and Kathy Keyser, Georgia; Joe and Sherry Crawford, Knoxville; D. K. and Melissa Crawford, Mount Carmel; 8 nephews and 6 nieces and extended family in Germany.

A memorial service will be held Friday at 5:00 P.M. at the Derrick Park in Church Hill. Those desiring to attend are asked to meet at the park between 4:00 and 5:00 P.M.
